Téry Chalet

2,015 m a.s.l. 4-5 h from Hrebienok Year-round

The highest year-round mountain chalet in the High Tatras. Téry Chalet is located in Malá Studená Valley at Five Spis Lakes. It is named after Hungarian speleologist and geographer Edmund Téry, who explored many Tatra caves.

Location: The chalet lies at an altitude of 2,015 m at five beautiful mountain lakes. From the chalet there is an excellent view of Malý Ľadový Peak, Prostredný Hrot and the entire high-mountain relief of the surroundings. It is an ideal base for ascents to nearby peaks.

Access: The easiest access is from Starý Smokovec via Hrebienok, Obrovský Waterfall and Zamkovského Chalet (4-5 hours). Alternatively you can come from Tatranská Lomnica via Skalnaté Lake and Sedlo pod Svišťovkou (5-6 hours). The route is demanding with an elevation gain of approximately 1,250 m.

Accommodation: Capacity of 24 beds in three rooms - two six-bed and one twelve-bed shared room. Overnight stay includes duvet and pillow, sleeping bag is needed. The chalet offers hot meals, drinks and the possibility to replenish supplies.

Points of interest: Around the chalet there are 5 Spis Lakes with the largest Veľký Spis Lake. On clear nights the surrounding peaks beautifully reflect in the lake surface. The chalet is also a starting point to Rysy, Baranie Rohy and Malý Ľadový Peak.

Zbojnícka Chalet

1,960 m a.s.l. 2.5-3 h from Hrebienok Year-round

Gateway to the most beautiful valley in the Tatras. Zbojnícka Chalet is located in Veľká Studená Valley at an altitude of 1,960 m. The valley is exceptional in that there are 26 Tatra lakes in its surroundings - the most of all Tatra valleys!

Name history: The chalet was named after the legend of bandits who hid in this valley. Zbojnícka Rock and Zbojnícky Ridge recall these stories. The first chalet was built here in 1935.

Access: The most common route leads from Starý Smokovec via Hrebienok on the red trail (2.5-3 hours). The trail leads along Veľký Studenovodský Waterfall and gradually climbs into the valley. The elevation gain is approximately 1,200 m.

Accommodation and services: The chalet offers accommodation in shared and multi-bed rooms. Available is a restaurant with excellent home cooking, a terrace with breathtaking views and facilities for tourists. In winter the chalet is sought after by ski mountaineers.

Lakes in the surroundings: Around the chalet you'll find many beautiful lakes - Veľké Spišské, Malé Spišské, Priečne, Capie, Jamnické and others. A walk to the lakes is easy and offers breathtaking views of surrounding peaks including Lomnický and Ľadový Peaks.

Zamkovského Chalet

1,475 m a.s.l. 1-1.5 h from Hrebienok Year-round

Ideal destination for families with children. Zamkovského Chalet is the lowest high-mountain chalet in the High Tatras. It is located in Malá Studená Valley at an altitude of 1,475 m, making it easily accessible even for less experienced tourists and families with children.

Named after a surveyor: The chalet bears the name of Štefan Zamkovský, a notable Tatra surveyor and cartographer who mapped the Tatras in the early 20th century. The first chalet at this location was built in 1943.

Access: From Hrebienok you can reach the chalet in about an hour's walk on the red trail towards Skalnaté Lake. The trail is easy, climbing on a comfortable path through beautiful forest. The elevation gain is only 200 m, making it accessible for practically everyone.

Accommodation: The chalet has 23 beds and 2 extra beds. Available are 3 four-bed rooms, 1 five-bed and 3 double rooms. Thanks to low altitude and good accessibility it is popular with tourists of all ages.

Surroundings: The chalet is an excellent starting point for further trips - whether to Téry Chalet, Skalnaté Lake or to Zelené Lakes. Around the chalet grows rich Tatra vegetation and often you can see marmots and chamois.

Practical Information

🛏️ Reservation and accommodation: We recommend making reservations at least a week in advance, on weekends and in summer season even earlier. Most chalets offer shared rooms with 6-12 beds. You need to bring your own sleeping bag or rent one at the chalet.
💰 Prices: Price for overnight stay ranges from 15 to 30 € per person depending on chalet and room type. Meals are available for extra charge - breakfast ~8€, dinner ~10-15€. Payment in cash and by card (at most chalets).
🎒 What to bring: Sleeping bag, basic hygiene supplies, flashlight, slippers, own water and food supplies (although food is also available at the chalet). In winter also warm clothing and spare socks.
📱 Communication: Most chalets don't have mobile signal coverage, some have Wi-Fi for a fee. Reserve in advance by phone or via web before your ascent, while you still have signal.
🚿 Sanitary facilities: All chalets have toilets, not all however have showers. Some chalets allow hot shower for extra charge. Water in mountain chalets is a precious resource, use it sparingly.
♿ Accessibility: Most high-mountain chalets are not barrier-free. Access is on foot by mountain trails. Exception is Skalná Izba accessible by cable car and some lower chalets with access road.

How to Behave in a Mountain Chalet

  • 🕐 Night quiet: Evening from 22:00 to 6:00 observe silence
  • 👞 Change shoes: Always change shoes at entrance, leave muddy boots outside
  • 🎒 Order: Keep your space and common areas tidy
  • 💡 Energy: Save electricity and water - they are precious commodities
  • 🗑️ Waste: Take all waste back down with you, including organic
  • 🤝 Respect: Respect other guests and chalet staff
  • 📵 Noise: Limit loud phone calls and use of speakers
  • 🚬 Smoking: Smoking is allowed only in designated outdoor areas
