Tatra Electric Railway
Unique narrow-gauge railway connecting Tatra resorts since 1908
About the Tatra Electric Railway
TEZ is the main transport artery of the High Tatras and a tourist attraction at the same time
History since 1908
TEZ was put into operation on December 20, 1908. It is one of the oldest electric railways in Central Europe. Originally it connected only Poprad with Stary Smokovec, and was gradually extended to Strbske Pleso and Tatranska Lomnica.
Y-shaped Route
The total length of the line is approximately 35 km. The route is Y-shaped — from Poprad through Stary Smokovec it branches west to Strbske Pleso (line 183) and east to Tatranska Lomnica (line 184). The track gauge is 1000 mm.
Modern Stadler GTW Vehicles
Since 2019, modern Stadler GTW 2/6 electric units operate on the TEZ. They offer comfortable travel, air conditioning, barrier-free access and a capacity of 134 passengers. The maximum speed is 60 km/h.
